Through the process of preparing the presentation of Carl Orff, I found different information and comments about him. Carl Orff was a German composer and a musical educator. In his work, he emphasized the value of connecting to historical experience and the immediate relationship with the present.
Orff was inspired by Mediaeval mystery plays, folk tales from his Bavarian roots, fairy tales from around the world and Greek tragedy bears. He rediscovered the past music in his work, but he was also willing to try something new, such as the electronic guitar. Moreover, his idea is new. For education, his idea is similar to what Mc Luhan said, “everything we do is music”. Orff believed that music comes from the individual, which provides the basis for Orff’s musical fundamental education. Moreover, he was influenced by the globalization, which can be seen through his broad inspirations. Ignoring the controversial label of whether he was Nazi, I like his idea that connects to the past and creates the present as well as the idea that everyone has an individual way to make their own music. It is a natural and comfortable way to make music.
While I found more information about him, I felt that he closely relate to different areas and had broad inspirations. I want his image to be complete, but there is too much information about him, which was hard for me to choose and focus on one perspective. Although describing him completely is hard, it is interesting to see and think about how history connects to new media and keeps having influences on nowadays.
